Flag-Off Press Breifing

On February 3rd, 2021, the Bunmi Adedayo Foundation flagged off the Tech-Relevant Teacher (TRT) Project, an initiative to empower schools and classroom teachers with soft skills and computer accessories for digital content creation for schools. The project is sponsored by the Coca-Cola Foundation. The event was attended by the BAF Board, Representative of the Coca-Cola Foundation as well as Partner Organizations.

At this event, the Foundation announced the receipt of $52,725 grant from The Coca-Cola Foundation (TCCF) to implement the “Tech-Relevant Teacher (TRT) Project’’. This BAF education intervention initiative aims to train school leaders and teachers from 200 low and middle-cost schools in virtual teaching skills and technologies and empower 30 schools with content production suites. It seeks to improve the learning experience in primary schools, especially in neighborhoods with an increased number of out-of-school children because of COVID-19.

Speaking on this award, the Acting Board Chairman of the Foundation, Mr. Mayowa Ogunnusi, explained; "We are grateful to The Coca-Cola Foundation as this grant will directly impact 600 teachers and indirectly benefit thousands of teachers across Nigeria. All the school leaders will participate ian a school leadership and sustainability conference on educational technologies. We will set up a learning content production suite for 30 schools so that they can independently develop quality content for teaching and learning. There will be hands-on exposure and training in educational technology and how they can use different tools and techniques for virtual teaching”.

“We are always deliberate about our school leadership approaches because they are critical factors that affect teachers, pupils and their performance, and quality of educational institutions we build. It is important to build school leadership competence in exploring technology to operate sustainably and enrich learning experiences of the pupils,” he said.

In her statement, the Head of Public Affairs, Communications, and Sustainability for Coca-Cola Nigeria Limited, Mrs. Nwamaka Onyemelukwe, described the project as being different from most sustainability projects saying, “This is another intricate way to ensure our children continue to receive the most valuable gift any nation can give its people. At Coca-Cola, we strongly believe that empowering teachers from low-income schools will provide children from the inner cities with the tools and life skills for a better educational future.
